Akubra Hats World Record Attempt

Although details are still being finalised, Race, Stay, Play organisers have confirmed a major World Record attempt will be staged in the Central Business District on the morning of raceday.

“We need at least 1,000 proud Akubra owners in the CBD on raceday to make the world record official,” Ms Smith said. “And everyone in the local community is invited to take part.”

The event has the support of the Akubra Hats company and has attracted interest from a national television breakfast program to broadcast the event live to an Australia-wide viewing audience throughout the morning.

“This is great News for the Macleay,” Ms Smith said. “It shows the strong interest Australia has in the Akubra brand and product and we believe there is no better time or place to stage the World Record attempt than the Akubra Hats Kempsey Cup.”

Lou’s Café owner Lou Kesby, confirmed he would be opening early for breakfast on raceday and encouraged other cafes and businesses to open their doors early.

“I’d encourage the whole town to open and take advantage because this will put thousands of people into the CBD of Kempsey.”

A number of high profile racing identities have been approached to be ambassadors for event and to take part in the day. Entertainment will also be provided at the breakfast with more details to be released over the next two months.
